Gee Whiz Curriculum

The teachers at SNT are dedicated to making your child's first classroom experience a positive foundation for learning. All of our classes follow the Gee Whiz Curriculum, approved by the PA Department of Education for children from Infants through Preschool. The Gee Whiz curriculum has semi-monthly thematic units which our teachers expand upon based on the age of the children, including sensory play, gross and fine motor activities, as well as language/literacy and STEM topics!

The Gee Whiz Curriculum addresses TEN areas of developmental readiness important for learning, health, and individual growth of every child:

  • Language Development:
From baby's listening and toddlers using nonverbal communication to preschoolers using full sentences to have their needs met, our curriculum focuses on the various ways to communicate with children so we can help them get the most out of their day at SNT.

  • Literacy Knowledge:
Everything related to literacy is covered in this topic-understanding the use of books from a young age to learning to sing our ABC's then finally holding and using a pencil to write the alphabet!

  • Math Knowledge:
A strong foundation of mathematic knowledge helps make learning more meaningful. Understanding the concepts of numbers, estimation, patterns, geometry, and more help our children establish future success in mathematics for years to come. STEM sections are built into each unit!

  • Science Knowledge:
Exploring, observing, and critical thinking helps our children make meaningful first-hand connections with the world around them. STEM sections are built into each unit!

  • Approaches to Learning:
All children have a love for learning, and at SNT that learning starts as early as infancy! Constantly engaging children on a daily basis in fun and unique activities is the driving force to develop their cooperation with others and fuels their desire to learn.

  • Logic and Reasoning:
We pride ourselves at SNT by being the guides for children in our care, including modeling ways to expand their Logic and Reasoning in the classroom. We help prompt our students to problem solve and use their reasoning on a daily basis for future success in school and life.

  • Creative Arts:
Expanding learning from the traditional 'academic' themes to include Creative Arts helps to build a multi-faceted learning experience where children can be creators! Our Music Class is one of the cornerstones of our Creative Art branches at SNT!

  • Social Studies Knowledge:
Learning about what makes our communities and cultures different as well as how they all play a part to create our understanding of the world is the basis of Social Studies Knowledge. Introducing the concepts of diversity, equality, and inclusion help shape our students to be more caring individuals.

  • Social and Emotional Development:
Establishing healthy relationships with peers, teachers, and the community is an important part of children preparing for Kindergarten! Working through their own emotions, resolving conflicts, and building positive, meaningful relationships help our children become more self-aware and self-assured individuals.

  • Physical Development and Health:
Our large playgrounds allow for daily exploration of gross motor skills while our classrooms help children focus on building their fine motor skills. Understanding healthy habits-such as proper hygiene, outdoor play, and eating well-give our children skills to be healthy for the rest of their lives!
